My condolences to our friends in California. The outrage, despair and disappointment we feel in the wake of today’s decision must be balanced with the resolve that the day will come when marriage equality will be the law of the land. The day will come when we look back in disbelief that there was ever a time when loving couples didn’t enjoy the freedom to marry.

USA Today reports the following:
“I fully expect we will see deaths form this infection” as swine flu cases are investigated, Richard Besser, acting director of the CDC.
Anne Schuchat, interim deputy director of the CDC’s Science and Public Health Program, testified that scientists don’t have enough information to be “confident that we won’t also see severe disease here.” She defended the federal government’s much-debated decision not to screen travelers coming from Mexico and not to close the borders. “We don’t think this virus can be contained.”
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday that two people are hospitalized with suspected swine flu and they are separate from the outbreak at a private school in Queens. One is a child in the Bronx and the other an adult in Brooklyn.
City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden also said that “many hundreds” of schoolchildren are sick with suspected cases of swine flu.
